Forbes Library

Forbes Library is in Northampton, MA near the gates of Smith College. The library is a beautiful stone building which has been extensively renovated inside to better serve the needs of its patrons and highlight the building’s architectural details.

Besides an extensive collection of books and research materials, the library has a large children’s area, a multimedia collection (music, video, DVD), the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library & Museum, the Hampshire Room for Local History and Special Collections (including digital collections available online, one of which features the Northampton State Hospital), a collection of fine arts, and ongoing art exhibits on the second floor, usually featuring the works of local artists.

The library also provides free wireless access (bring your own laptop or use one of the library’s public workstations) use of meeting rooms for public meetings or events, and a limited number of passes allowing free admittance to several area museums.

Parking: There is a metered parking lot behind the library. Most meters have a 2-hr limit, but you can also purchase a ‘day pass’ at the circulation desk.

Hours: Hours vary depending on the season. Get current hours and other information here.
